couture-fall-09-2

Paris recently showed their Fall 2009 Haute Couture shows and hands down Christian Dior was my favorite.  Classic 1940s feel with bright colors and fabulous detailing.  Dior showed breathtaking jackets that were matched with undergarments, and large richly colored (and mostly feathered) hats were matched with equally bright suits made for the woman who is confident and in-charge.  Valentino presented clothes filled with lace and feathers, but the shoes were more memorable than the clothes themselves.  Jean-Paul Gaultier showed many suits I would  place under work wear for the modern CEO, and Armani Prive sent one gorgeous gown after another down the runway.  Major disappointment this season: Elie Saab, an endless number of white dresses, nothing too creative, but no doubt they will be seen on many red carpets.

Like most women I am on the quest  for the perfect lashes.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t born with long voluminous lashes like my father so I have to create them.  I still adore Dior mascara but spending $24 for mascara in this economy does not always feel good.  I headed to my local drug store to see what I can find.  Maybelline’s Lash Stiletto immediately stood out to me.  The product packaging is perfect.  Long, sleek, and black.  And what girl wouldn’t enjoy eyelashes that were long and sexy like a stiletto?  I was sold.

I agreed to use the product for one week.  Ultimately, I was disappointed with Maybelline’s Lash Stiletto mascara.  It separated my lashes to the point that I looked like I hardly had lashes, and my lashes did not look longer at all.  My eyes did not appear to have any mascara on no matter how many coats I put applied.  The product might work better for eyelashes that are already full and long, but again it hardly looks like mascara is on.

Final say: Don’t waste your money or time.  Stick with Maybelline’s Great Lash for a few bucks less.

I am saving my money for a new laptop and a new digital camera.  Oh yeah, and for just day to day living.  But I still crave luxury good items.  Hmm, maybe I can sneak them in my budget somehow.

For the 1st edition of If I WORE A Rich Girl I have included 3 pieces that I would definitely turn into statement pieces during the hot summer months.  I want the large Tom Ford “Marcella”" sunglasses, my Tiffany key pendant, and my large tote Chanel bag.  All this for almost $4000.

Maybe I should title this piece my post recession look.

Must investment: High waisted Chloe skirt.   This skirt can be worn in several different ways from day to evening.  Plus, the skirt is a little more forgiving on the figure then a pencil skirt. I chose 3 different looks for work, cocktails, and a little night fun.  Dress it up or down you are still a Power woman on the go.  The Yves Saint Laurent handbag adds a classy sophisticated elegance while the Jimmy Choo heels spice up any outfit.  By having a similar high waisted skirt you can no longer say “I have nothing to wear.”

Last week we were on hiatus due to friends (Ms. Purple and Ms. Green) coming into town. On this Good Fashion Friday we are happy to bring you the joys of London Fashion Week. Vivienne Westwood Red Label, Temperley London, Graeme Black, Ossie Clark, and Giles collections could go straight from the runway to my coveted closet. I felt most of the other designers lacked originality and the clothes were similar to anything you could find in any mall around the country (and for a lot less. Maybe the economy has stifled some of the creativity.) Regardless, I was still able to find 30 pieces total for work, cocktail, and fun in the posts below that will enhance your wardrobe, spirit, and powerfulness. Thank you London.

Also vote for the pink and white dress you liked more in our Fashion City Wars poll.

London fashion is known for its strongly tailored suits, and for spring RTW this tradition remains.  If I had to choose one designer to pick from this season it would be Graeme Black.  This label offers great pieces in black, white, gray, and gold for the Power Woman to wear in the office/Happy Hour.  I picked 10 pieces from several designers who showed their collections in London this season, that will hopefully inspire you to look your best in the office this season.

With cocktail dresses you can have a lot more fun than your 9 to 5 wear, so show off your personality with some color, a lot of color.  Luella brought colored dresses down the runway one after another.  Ossie Clark went BRIGHT BRIGHT BRIGHT!  And Jaeger London gave us a romantic maxi dress.  So many dresses so little cocktail time. Enjoy.

For the woman who wears black as her signature color top 10 list is for you.  Tempereley London had some Chanelesque black and white pieces, Giles gave is the black and gray cocktail dress, and Issa showed off the accessory of the season, toned legs.  Before going to the gym check out the options below.

I discovered animoto.com which allows you to turn your pics into cool videos and offers some music to go with it. I tested it out and liked it. Tell me what you think.
